Technologie- und Methodenplattform für die vernetzte medizinische Forschung e.V.

Short name: 

TMF (Technologie- und Methodenplattform für die vernetzte medizinische Forschung e.V.) is a non-profit umbrella organization for medical research networks (currently 80 members) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Its mission is to harmonize and improve the regulatory and procedural conditions for the medical research communities in Germany and the EU. As an umbrella organization, TMF represents a broad open community of German medical research associations, universities, and research projects combining under one roof, among others, the disease-oriented Competence Networks in Medicine, the Coordinating Centres for Clinical Trials
(KKS), several Networks for Rare Diseases, infection epidemiological networks, the German National Genome Research Network (NGFN) as well as patient organisations. TMF has developed a series of IT tools supporting clinical trials and epidemiological databases (e.g. CDISC converter, CDISC-bases SAS macros, PID generator, pseudonymisation service, web-based guidance tools for harmonized informed consent forms, web-based data quality assessment tool). TMF has also established generic concepts for data security and privacy and for informed consents concerning clinical trials, patient registers, and biobanks. With its expertise in developing generic concepts for data security and privacy, IT tools for supporting clinical trials and other tools and services, TMF contributes to the project primarily in the fields of data protection issues and secure access, ethical and legal requirements and regulatory frameworks. Data migration (CDISC tools), deidentification and confidentiality are also fields of interest.
