Karolinska Institutet is one of the world´s leading medical universities. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of human health through research and education. Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40 per cent of the academic research in medicine conducted in Sweden and offers the country´s broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. Its experience in informatics interoperability is exemplified by Twin-Net, developed by the Litton group at KI in collaboration with the Department of MolecularMedicine at the University of Helsinki. Part of the EU project GenomEUtwin system, Twin-Net allows effortless data exchange and pooling of analyses from 600,000 twin pairs from seven European countries and Australia. It provides a transparent virtual view of data
stored in various computer systems and databases.
