CSC - IT Center for Science Ltd.
CSC is a non-profit limited liability company that is fully owned by the state of Finland and governed by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. CSC is one of the largest ICT centres for science in Europe with almost 200 staff. CSC provides modelling, computing and information services for academia, research institutes, the public sector and industry. The ICT infrastructure (supercomputers, data storage, network systems) that CSC operates are property of the state of Finland. CSC's multi-disciplinary e-Infrastructure supports a wide European customer base consisting of thousands of researchers. Scientific services cover disciplines such as biosciences, linguistics, chemistry and mathematical modelling and CERN LHC high-energy physics. CSC collaborates with the Finnish ministries and national funding agencies in the development of e-Infrastructure competence. CSC maintains the Finnish University and Research Network (Funet), enabling fast connections between researchers. CSC has close connections to e-Infrastructure providers globally and represents Finland in the EU framework e-Infrastructure development projects such as DEISA, EGI and PRACE. CSC is the Finnish contact point in the European Life-Science Infrastructure for Biological Information, ELIXIR.
